Is this edition different at all from the one published in England? I just got a copy of the English one but haven't gotten far in it, because I'm taken up with reading various of your blog entries on Merton and experience.
In any case, it's great that it will be coming out - a benefit for many.

Dear Susan,
It's slightly different, but nothing major. I was able to clean up a few places and make one or two corrections; the production quality is also much better than for the UK edition. And the publisher got Rowan Williams to write a new endorsement, which I only saw for the first time a day or two ago, and which has blown me away.

Hi Maggie,
Please forgive me but I am not really familiar with your writing. I came across your name in January while reading a Blog(?)which addressed comments that you had made about Thomas Merton. I have taken consolation in Merton for thirty-five years and and I immediately took an internal defensive stance against your position. However I was struck by your no nonsense approach and your ability to get to the heart of the matter. Certainly Merton had his faults and I have no idea whether or not he was a contemplative. What I most admire in Merton was his vulnerability.
Your comments,Maggie,led me to you Blog and I was drawn to your way of looking at things. This led me to order you book Writing the Icon of The Heart.
And so, here I am on this cold February morning sitting at my kitchen table halfway through your book. Our cat is stretched out beside me ready to take a swat at my hand with each page I turn. A blizzard envelopes my province of Nova Scotia, nothing is going to be moving today... And then Maggie I come to the 14 November 2007 entry in your book. It took me totally by surprise. Tears filled my eyes as I read this moving account of Christmases past. Thank you so much for sharing this. I hope that someday I will realize that the most precious thing that we bring to the manger is our suffering.
Interestingly,at least to me,I do find that you and Merton are similar in some ways especially in the the way you both have a profound sense of the mystery of the natural world.
Anyway,the natural world is dumping plenty of snow outside and I must go get my shovel. Thank you Maggie and take care.
